Instructions
Plan the Party
- 1Choose a date, time, and location for your party. A children's party is best held in the afternoon, while an adult party is better at night.
- 2Make a guest list. How many people you invite is dependent on your party budget. Think about the number of guests you will have when planning the food, drinks and activities as well.
- 3Send the invitations at least two weeks before your Wizard of Oz costume party. A month's notice will result in more guests being able to attend, and they will have more time to get a costume. Make or buy Wizard of Oz themed invitations to set the tone for the party.
- 4Make a list of everything you need to purchase or gather for the party so that you have everything ready for the event. Don't forget to rent, buy or make your costume.
Party Time
- 1Set the scene for your Wizard of Oz party. There are many different options for the decorations. Focus on one part of Oz such as the Emerald City or Munchkin Land, decorate in rainbow colors or have different sections of the party location be different locations from Oz. Don't forget a yellow brick road leading up and into the party entrance.
- 2Play music during the party. The Wizard of Oz movie soundtrack and The Whiz soundtrack are good options.
- 3Plan a few Wizard of Oz activities. If the party is for children, print coloring pages from The Wizard of Oz official website or play "pin the heart on the Tin Man" using a blown up picture of the Tin Man, blindfold and heart stickers. A rainbow piƱata is fun for children and adults; you can simply alter the contents.
- 4Have plenty of Oz themed food and drinks. A fun punch idea is to get a plastic black cauldron and make "melted witch punch" by filling it with green punch and letting a black witch hat float on top. For an adult party, simply add some liquor to the punch. Make "ruby slipper cookies" out of slipper shaped sugar cookies with red icing and red sprinkles. A rainbow or green castle cake completes the theme.
- 5Consider buying or making gift bags for a children's party. Paint old Easter baskets brown and line with a gingham fabric. Fill the basket with candy, a small stuffed "Toto" dog, Wizard of Oz stickers and books.
